For motorists travelling along the busy M1 motorway, Leicester Forest East is just a service station. Despite living here for over 25 years, I also failed to recognise any special features in this suburban village. By walking no more than a mile from home, I wandered without a route, a time limit, or a specific objective. I sought to develop my situational awareness by responding to subjects and events. Dozens of micro-expeditions, random encounters with light, aesthetics, change, and everyday events changed my perspective on the mundane and banal.
